DIFFICULT WOUNDS WITH SLOUGH AND NECROSIS:

LEARN HOW TO HEAL THEM FASTER

Do you encounter difficult, sloughy  wounds in your practice? Do enzymatics seem too expensive and surgical debridement is not recommended?

Or do you need to prepare a difficult wound for a successful placement of a costly skin substitute product?
Picture
Learn about an inexpensive method you can use TODAY to remove slough and necrotic tissues from the wound
  • quickly ( typically in 3-6 dressing changes)
  • gently (non-surgically)
  • selectively (not affecting delicate viable tissues)
  • and painlessly

with ENLUXTRA Smart Wound Dressings.

ENLUXTRA is able to gradually, painlessly and non-traumatically remove slough, necrotic tissue and other non-viable and pro-inflammatory components from the wound bed,
as well as reduce wound drainage and odor
without use of any enzymatic topical agents.

Here is how the process works:

   1. Enluxtra vertically absorbs and locks in excessive exudate in exuding wound zones, while at the same time hydrating dry wound zones via embedded hydrogel.

These two simultaneous processes quickly create a sustainable and reliable moist healing environment in the whole wound.

    2. Optimally moist environment supports intensive natural cleansing process in the wound; this process is known as autolysis. Autolysis uses the body's own enzymes and moisture to re-hydrate, soften and finally liquefy hard eschar, necrotic tissue and slough.

Autolysis is selective; only non-viable tissues are liquefied. It is also virtually painless for the patient.

    3. In order to achieve the best healing outcome, the liquefied products of autolysis, as well as harmful bacteria, disintegrated biofilms, excessive salts, toxins, and other corrosive pro-inflammatory components of chronic wound exudate, must be continuously and non-traumatically evacuated from the wound.

Enluxtra effectively cleanses the wound from all these components.

Unlike other moist dressings, Enluxtra is able to continuously evacuate multiple products of natural autolytic debridement, such as liquefied debris of necrotic tissue and slough, along with harmful microorganisms, various pro-inflammatory components and disintegrated biofilms, from the wound bed.

The wound under Enluxtra quickly becomes clean, and stays clean.

This natural cleansing process works as needed while Enluxtra stays on a wound, and is critical for a faster wound healing.

Wounds 2015;27(8):229-235  Volume 27 - Issue 8 - August 2015:   EVIDENCE OF INTENSIVE AUTOLYTIC DEBRIDEMENT WITH A SELF-ADAPTIVE WOUND DRESSING
Alexander M. Reyzelman, DPM and Mher Vartivarian, DPM

"AUTOLYTIC DEBRIDEMENT AND WOUND CLOSURE WITH NOVEL SELF-ADAPTIVE DRESSING TECHNOLOGY IN PATIENTS WITH MULTIPLE COMORBIDITIES" Disney Macias, LPN, WCCN, WCS; Lucette Sabala, MSN, RN, CDE; Maureen DeSoria, RN, JD; Jorge P. Amaya, MD • Leon Medical Centers, Miami, FL. Poster presentation, Fall 2014
66-year old male presented with three non-healing trauma wounds located on his right thigh and knee. Patient's prior medical history included diabetes mellitus, cerebro-vascular accident, diabetic peripheral neuropathy, hypertension, alcohol abuse, and folic acid deficiency. Patient is receiving pain management medication.

Non-viable tissues in a wound consist of solid and viscous components (slough, necrotic tissue, eschar). Under Enluxtra wound dressing an intensive natural autolytic process liquefies these components, while the dressing is able to absorb and lock them in, along with the exudate fluid.
Picture
The absorbed components are locked in the dressing and kept away from the wound.  With every dressing change the amounts of slough and necrotic tissues in the wound are significantly reduced. Odor and exudate reduction typically follow. In most cases slough and odor are completely removed after 3-6 dressing changes.

During slough removal process, change Enluxtra every 1-2 days to avoid dressing overload and to prevent semi-solid slough components from clogging the dressing surface.

Follow these steps:
  • Rinse a wound with sterile saline before each dressing application.
  • Choose the correct size of Enluxtra dressing. The dressing MUST cover fragile periwound area and overlap healthy skin by at least 1 inch (or more).  Refer to How to Use page for more information.
  • Change Enluxtra every  1-2 days for the first 1-2 weeks, or until slough and odor are removed.
  • Then you may gradually increase wear time to  5-7 days, until the wound is healed.

In the video below Dr. Reyzelman, a Co-Director of the UCSF Center for Limb Preservation, teaches how to use Enluxtra for difficult wounds.
